Flexible. Appropriate. Smart.

smart

With a project-based economy comes the necessity to be flexible regarding talent. Because each organization’s needs are different, we convene the most appropriate alliances to respond to those needs. This invariably results in the best possible outcome.

Phil Birnie, Principal

Phil works as a digital strategist with Cochran Group, and launched Phil Birnie Digital Media in April 2011. He has constructed sites for a variety of clients including the successful “Yes on Issue 1”; campaign in May 2010, OhioCheesecakes.com for the Ohio Poultry Association and American Dairy Association, and most recently for Kevin Knight & Company.

Phil holds a bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Science and a Master’s degree in Geography. While at first glance, these fields may seem inapplicable to the realm of web development and digital media, it was during an intranet re-development project while serving as a Meteorologist at AccuWeather that Phil became enamored with web development and design. More importantly, he credits his ability to think critically and more acutely understand the needs of organizations to the rigor of Graduate School and his research of small business networks.

A self-proclaimed Columbus fanatic, Phil is active in a number of service and professional organizations (including the Columbus Society for Communicating Arts, the Ohio Small Business Development Center, and the Merion Village Association) with a passion for making Columbus a better place to live and work.

Foodfight 2012!

Winter is just underway, but we’re already gearing up for the next round of Foodfight!, Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s annual dine-out event to support Operation Feed. Even though rain clouds loomed large (surprise, surprise) on Foodfight! this past year, it was a success without equivocation.

As far as the site goes, this past year was a whirlwind; we had to design, build, and launch the site in just a few days. Without my fellow comrades on the marketing committee, there’s no way it would have made it! Thankfully we’ll have plenty of time to implement some new ideas this coming year including: greater engagement with social media, a geo-locating function to help diners find nearby participating establishments, and better representation for restaurants.
